XCAR: EXPERIMENTAL RACING
|
The Tire Editor is a separate utility that lets you custom design your own tires to fit your driving style. Only for the hardcore or those that have a fetish for rubber. |
The tire.zip(281 KB) file contains the tire editor executable and a dos executable needed to run the editor.
Designed from secret data from a top tire manufacturer, this editor lets you adjust 17 different coefficients to find the right fit. This data is so secret that only the effects of adjusting each coefficient were revealed, not the actual coefficients themselves. Perhaps you can figure out what each one means?
This editor also lets you adjust the camber, pressure and tread. Save your creations and import them into the game!
CUSTOMIZATION STRATEGY
Each curve on the graph represents different vertical loads. The load is shown directly below the graph (only the 200 lbs. load is not shown). The curves represent what force the tire generates at different angles.
Y axis = FY Force generated by the tire.
X axis= Slip Angle. The angle that the tire is traveling relative to straight ahead.
You do not want the slip angle to be too far to the right because it indicates that your tires will have soft side walls, which muddles performance.
THE PEAK
The peak of the curve is the maximum force that the tire can produce. When racing around a corner, if you go over that peak, the tire will slide. If you are under the peak, you are not using the tire to its maximum potential.
Ideally, you want the curve on the graph to have a high peak. However, if the peak shoots too high quickly and drops off quickly, your car will be more difficult to handle.
